INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – At 12:31 p.m. on Thursday (Aug. 11), North Carolina Central University received a letter from the NCAA confirming the university’s active membership in Division I athletics.
The five-year reclassification process moving from Division II athletics competition to Division I (Football Championship Subdivision) is now over, and NCCU is eligible to participate in post-season championships starting this fall.
"Gaining full membership to NCAA Division I has been our goal for several years now and I am excited and delighted to see it come to pass," said NCCU Chancellor Charlie Nelms. "I appreciate what a tremendous effort this was for Athletic Director Ingrid Wicker-McCree and her entire team, and I thank and congratulate them for the superb job they did. The Eagles have arrived!"

Ms. Alumni Information - DeAnna Malone |

Meet DeAnna Malone
I graduated from NCCU class of 2010 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Administration. I was very involved on campus, participating and holding leadership positions in organizations such as Student Activities Board and the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality.
Since my departure from NCCU I have become very involved with the Atlanta Alumni Chapter by participating in such events as membership drives, GSU vs. NCCU football tailgate, and Coat drive that supported people in the city of Atlanta. Giving back to not only my community but my school is very important to me.
As an alumnus my mission is to be able to expose students to the rich traditions, valuable scholarship, and long lasting memories that can only be formed at a Historical Black University.
